KJAX morning host Del Ray John was honored Thursday by the students and community of Firth, Idaho for his years in the armed service. Del Ray was one of 100 who was presented a plaque by the students of the high school who conducted fundraisers themselves to pay for the honors they gave the veterans. The school researched and located veterans going back as far as World War Two to bring home for the event. The event was highlighted with performances by the high school choir, a veteran’s solo performance and music by the Firth Community Orchestra. Of the particular honor he received, Del Ray says “I’m so proud of my little hometown of about 400. They had a crowd of about 500 people in the gymnasium including 160 veterans; all to honor them – and all from the great work of the kids at the high school!” Meanwhile in Jackson, students, community members and veterans filled the high school auditorium with a similar program to honor local veterans. It was also highlighted by messages from speakers and performances by the high school band and choir.
