KMTN Recognized For 45th Birthday

Jackson Mayor Pete Muldoon took time out fat Monday’s Town Council meeting to recognize the 45th anniversary of KMTN FM.
Mark Fishman was there to receive the proclamation from the Mayor which noted the station’s long service to the valley reading, “The Mountain has entertained and informed residents and visitors of the Jackson community with programs such as Jeff Woodruff’s “Three Centuries of Music”, Paul Harvey’s “Rest of the Story, Jon Gronberg’s Jazz Sessions, Ali Noland’s Classic Rock Bus, and the long-running “Trash and Treasure.”
Councilmember Jim Stanford recalled his Saturday morning shift on KMTN in the 90’s.
The room stood for applause as Fishman was presented with the recognition.

PROCLAMATION
COMMEMORATING the 45th ANNIVERSARY of KMTN FM RADIO – “THE MOUNTAIN”
WHEREAS, on April 1, 1974, Newbold Morris filed for a construction permit to build Jackson’s first FM radio station on Snow King Mountain with broadcast studios at the old Teton Gables Motel, and
WHEREAS, on May 28, 1974, the Federal Communications Commission granted the callsign KMTN to Morris’ Teewinot Broadcasting; and
WHEREAS, on January 28, 1975, KMTN was officially licensed by the FCC to operate at 96.9 megahertz at an effective radiated power of 55 thousand watts; and
WHEREAS, KMTN, ever-since known as “The Mountain” has entertained and informed residents and visitors of the Jackson community with programs such as Jeff Woodruff’s “Three Centuries of Music”, Paul Harvey’s “Rest of the Story, Jon Gronberg’s Jazz Sessions, Ali Noland’s Classic Rock Bus, and the long-running “Trash and Treasure”; and
WHEREAS, KMTN has been awarded national honors as a top Triple A Music format station including Station of the Year in 2018 and the Program Director of the Year in 2016, 2017 and 2019 for Markets 50-Plus; and
WHEREAS, in January 2019, KMTN was returned to local ownership by being purchased by Jackson Hole Radio, LLC; and
WHEREAS, KMTN will continue to provide “Fresh Tracks on The Mountain”, and introduce local, national, and international listeners to new artists from around the world, as well as, help facilitate artists performing at local venues and festivals; and
Whereas, KMTN, Ninety-Six-point-Nine KMTN, is locally owned, locally programmed, and locally staffed – a member of the Jackson community since 1975.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pete Muldoon, Mayor of the Town of Jackson and on behalf of the Town Council, do hereby ask the entire Jackson Hole community to rally once again and join us in commemorating KMTN, 96.9, Mountain Radio, as they celebrate their 45th year of broadcasting.

JACKSON NAMED #1 MOST ART-VIBRANT SMALL COMMUNITY
WHEREAS, arts and cultural organizations exist throughout the nation, serving communities both poor and affluent, rural and urban; and
WHEREAS, the arts and cultural events are vital components of the Jackson community; and
WHEREAS, the National Center for Arts Research at Southern Methodist University gathered data including Jackson’s mountain community of great beauty and innovation including both Teton County, Wyoming and Idaho, to develop reports on important issues in arts management and patronage; and
WHEREAS, Jackson was ranked the Top Art-Vibrant Small Community in the Nation, with all art forms represented in our community, and at times being recognized nationally, or internationally for excellence;
WHEREAS, our community is home to the National Museum of Wildlife Art, which offers a Sculpture Trail in addition to its indoor, permanent collection; a 78,000 square foot Center for the Arts campus providing community-wide cultural and educational facility space for 22 independent cultural and educational resident organizations to flourish – including the Off Square Theatre Company, the Jackson Hole Community Band, Jackson Community Theater, the Jazz Foundation of Jackson Hole, the Jackson Hole Chorale, Teton Music School, Musicland, Riot Act, and pARTners; the Grand Teton Music Festival which brings prestigious soloists and musicians to our community; the Dancers’ Workshop; Jackson Hole Public Art; the Art Association; and the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival; and
WHEREAS, Arts and cultural organizations are among the engines of community development and community cohesion; and
WHEREAS, The current climate of political, sociocultural and economic polarization makes it more important than ever to recognize and celebrate the essential role that arts and culture play in making communities throughout the country not only more vibrant places to live and visit, but also more unified, safe and tolerant.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Pete Muldoon, Mayor of the Town of Jackson, do hereby recognize each organization in our art and cultural community and congratulate them for being a part of achieving this national recognition of being named #1 in the 2019 Arts Vibrancy Index .
