Lady Broncs let one slip away in SV, Wolves too much on Saturday

January 24, 2022 by Jackson Hole Radio

The Jackson Lady Broncs have not beaten the Star Valley Lady Braves in basketball in 13 years—27 straight losses. Make that 28 now.
Saturday at home, the Jackson girls gutted out a tall task in Green River but a dreadful 3rd quarter left them in the dust.

Fans expected a defensive struggle between two of the conference’s worst shooting teams. Offense was harder to find than a unanimous school board vote on a mask mandate.
Rachel Noyce and Karsen Breeding again led the Lady Broncs in scoring but it wasn’t enough to counter sophomore Kenlee Englehart for the Lady Braves, who finished with 12 points to lead all scorers.
The Lady Broncs got beat on the boards Friday. That was the difference. Normally, a very good rebounding team, Jackson got killed on the defensive boards as Star Valley—missing shots as they will—had second and third looks nearly every time up the court.

Green River 60, Jackson 32
It might seem preposterous to say the Lady Broncs played better in a 28-point loss than they did in a 4-point defeat, but they really did.
Jackson wasn’t expected to give Green River much trouble. The Lady Wolves score in bunches and steal like zoo chimpanzees. Two things that did not work into Jackson’s favor. The Lady Broncs don’t score a ton and they have trouble taking care of the basketball.
But Jackson kept it respectable into the half, trailing by just seven, 30-23. But all-state standout Megan Counts is going to stay quiet for just so long and the Green River senior poured in 22 to pace the Lady Wolves.
But how about Anna Revill? The 6’1” senior had the game of her career for the Lady Broncs. Playing more minutes with Rachel Noyce parked in foul trouble, Revill was spectacular. Blocking shots, backing her opponent into the paint until she sprung the laft-handed baby hook, and pulling down boards. Revill finished with a career-high 11 to go with 6 rebounds.
Kasey Carr had a very good weekend as well, scoring 6 points on both Friday and Saturday.

Next up
Jackson is now 2-6, 0-2. They travel to Driggs to take on the Teton Lady Timberwolves on Tuesday.
