Lady Broncs quest for state stopped by Rock Springs

May 24, 2021 by Jackson Hole Radio

The Lady Broncs soccer team had their dreams cut short during state competition. A loss to powerhouse Rock Springs in the quarterfinals was Jackson’s undoing.
Jackson got by Central 5-3 in the quarterfinals to earn a third meeting with the Lady Tigers—a team Jackson beat 2-1 in overtime in late March, but lost to 4-0 a month later.
Selah Hunter scored Jackson’s lone goal on an assist from Hannah Freeze, but it wasn’t enough as Rock Springs played a stifling game against the Lady Broncs.
Everyone was saying the West was stronger than the East this season and Rock Springs appeared to prove that as the Lady Tigers went on to secure a 2-0 win over the Thunder Lady Bolts for the state title.
The Jackson girls rebounded nicely on Saturday, as they have all season after loses, with a win in the consolation round. Taya McClennen again led the way for Jackson with 2 goals and 2 assists. Selah Hunter added a goal and 2 assists. Phoebe Alva Rosa also picked up a goal in the 5-3 win over Kelly Walsh—the team that knocked them out of regionals.
Overall, 2021 was a great season for the Jackson Lady Broncs. They finished 15-5 and should return a very competitive team next year. Selah Hunter, Melissa Kussy, and Zoe Crisp will be tough to replace but the freshman class including McClennen, Piper Lee, and Eva Flanagan will make for an exciting team in 2022. They will add their efforts to juniors-turning-seniors Phoebe Alva Rosa, Hannah Freeze, Brooklyn Hills, Natalie Joralemon, and Sidney Nash.
