Library Fines Can Be Paid With Food

November 1, 2018 by Jackson Hole Radio

At a time when the annual fall food drive came up short on donations for the Jackson Food Pantry, the Teton County Library has announced a program to help in making up the deficit.  Beginning today and continuing through the month, library patrons can pay off their library overdue fines by bringing in one non-perishable food item to the Front Desk or Youth Desk. Those items can range from canned fruits and vegetables to dry foods like cereals and pastas. All proceeds in Jackson will benefit the Jackson Cupboard. Items brought to the Alta Branch Library will be donated to the Teton Valley Food Pantry. Fees for lost or damaged items however are not included under the Food for Fines program. On October 27th, the area’s Boy Scouts conducted their annual food drive which normally yields about 300 cases of food items for the cupboard. This year it yielded 157 cases. Last year during the Food for Fines drive, the Jackson Branch collected 1,427 pounds of food for the cupboard and the Alta Branch collected 202 pounds.
