Investigation continues into the cause of the early morning fire last Friday that destroyed the White Pine Ski Resort Lodge. Battalion Captain Michael Petty of Sublette County Unified Fire says currently, an investigation team is still working with the insurance company as well as the State Fire Marshall’s office to conduct an origin and cause investigation. However, there is some speculation that the fire may have been the result of a lightning strike. At about 1:20 am on July 12th, a report came in of a possible wildland fire at the resort, but responders found instead that the ski lodge was fully involved in fire. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond the building. Robyn Blackburn, who with her husband Alan Blackburn own and operate the resort, noted that the lifts were not affected by the fire. Blackburn says they are meeting with the US Forest Service to determine what temporary structures they can operate from in order to reopen again this winter.
