Lightning struck a tree and sparked a small fire near Highway 89 in Snake River Canyon last night. While it was quickly extinguished, it did delay clients from a rafting trip from returning for about a half hour while crews dealt with the issue.
Meanwhile, three fires of appreciable size in Idaho were sparked by lightning during the past week. The Table Butte fire near Dubois, Idaho is currently estimated at 806 acres, the Horse Butte Fire near Aberdeen was estimated at over 9400 acres and the Lake Channel fire near Raft River is over 8200 acres. All of those fires have been 100% contained now. Currently, the fire danger in the region is considered moderate.
