Lightning strikes in the area have continued to spark fires around the region. Dubois Fire Department responded to a report of smoke and possible lightning strike fire Sunday in the area of Pelham Lake Road, just south of Togwotee Pass. The U.S. Forest Service joined forces with Dubois Fire and and hiked into the fire. The fire cause was confirmed to be lighting from a recent lightning storm that had passed an hour before. The fire was held to 1/10th acre with a hose lay and hand line, and was declared contained shortly after 4:00 pm. However, while mopping up, crews were forced off the fire due to another severe thunderstorm which produced heavy rain, hail and frequent lightning. Fire crews continue to monitor the area for any further resulting fires. Meanwhile, firefighters from the Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center have been dispatched to several lightning caused fires including the North Leigh Fire which is located about six mile east of Tetonia. Crews contained the fire to 1/10 acre there, and were able to control it by 8:00 pm Sunday night.
