There’s a good chance that more than a few people have seen a video of a pride of lions strolling through the Indian Springs development in Teton County. Altogether, says Wyoming Game and Fish Spokesman Mark Gocke, the group is made up of an adult accompanied by five kits. That, he says is unusual since usually there are not more than four kits in a family group. He says Game and Fish is aware of their presence, but not overly concerned at this time. He says more than likely, the group is simply passing through since the Snake River corridor is not far from where they were seen. He says at this time, they are not aware of the cats having found a localized food source, and he advises residents in the area not to leave food for their pets outside or to leave the pets themselves outdoors unattended. He says it is rare for a mountain lion to attack a human, and even then, usually under extenuating circumstances. Gocke advises that if you are approached, wave your arms, yell and make them know you are human. He says Game and Fish is continuing to monitor the situation and will rely on reports of their activity from local residents.
