House Bill 134 which would impose a statewide lodging tax of five percent in Wyoming passed out of the Wyoming House of Representatives Monday on a vote of 39 to 19 and is now been received for introduction in the Senate. Revenue generated from the tax would help run the Wyoming Office of Tourism and tourism marketing effort for the state of Wyoming. A proposed amendment to exempt Wyoming residents from having to pay the tax in their own travels around the state was voted down. The lodging tax would enable the state to remove the operations of the office of tourism from the general fund. Tourism is considered the second largest industry in Wyoming.
