Lopeman Picked for Shrine Bowl

February 4, 2021 by Jackson Hole Radio

Executive Director Frank Selby announced head coaches for the 48th annual Wyoming Shrine Bowl that pits the state’s best high school seniors against one another for one final all-star football game to be played this summer.
Cody head coach Matt McFadden will head up the South team and was in charge of making his selections. Mountain View’s head coach Brent Walk will lead the North.
Coach Walk selected just one player off the runner-up Jackson Broncs. That was two-way player Sam Lopeman. Lopeman led the defense as a strong safety/outside linebacker. He also played some slot receiver on the offense.
Many of the Broncs star players last season were underclassmen. Still, some Jackson seniors were omitted from Shrine Bowl selection including Henry Hershock, Sam Scott, Steven Heffron, Jack Brown, Ian Hoffman, Gio Pineda, and Jacobo Martinez.
Hershock was a valuable fullback/linebacker for coach David Joyce. Sam Scott was the No. 2 wide receiver who filled the gap when WR Nate Keipert was lost for most of the season to injury. Scott also played corner on defense.
Linemen Jack Brown, Gio Pineda, and Jacobo Martinez were invaluable to the Broncs as well. Backup linebacker Steven Heffron and Ian Hoffman made some big plays all season on defense.
