Teton County Commission Chair Natalia Macker has been selected as one of 15 leaders from across the country to join the NewDEAL network which is a selective national network of state and local elected officials with Honorary Co-Chairs U.S. Senator Mark Warner and former Governor Jack Markell. NewDEAL stands for “Developing Exceptional American Leaders.” Members of the 165-plus-person network, work to enact pro-economic growth, progressive solutions in a diverse array of communities, and have been chosen from among more than 1500 nominations over its eight-year history. Macker and her peers in the latest class of leaders were recognized for unwavering commitment to expanding opportunity, as they work to move their communities forward in the new economy and reject the idea that policymakers can or should want to turn the clock back to a prior era. It is the organization’s belief that these leaders’ work will help build on policy recommendations that NewDEAL Leaders help develop. Those recommendations include the release of a report from the NewDEAL Forum Future of Work Policy Group, and an upcoming release of work by the Climate Change Policy Group that launched in 2019. Since taking office, Macker has advocated for water quality protections, launched an early childhood education initiative, and expanded transit in support of ecosystem stewardship. She was selected to join NewDEAL in part because of these initiatives.
