A 69 year-old Teton Valley man became lost while cross country skiing in Teton Canyon Thursday night and became the subject of a search and rescue effort. Teton County Undersheriff Matt Carr says the man, identified as Dan Fiedler, called for help just before 5:00 pm, but the call was complicated by the internet outage being experienced, and his 911 call for help was routed to Driggs rather than Jackson. Carr says fortunately, searchers were able to ping the man’s cell phone and establish a location south of Teton Canyon. Because it was already dark, the search and rescue helicopter could not be used to locate Fiedler, and searchers set out on snowmobiles, contacting Fiedler shortly after 9:00 pm. Fiedler was successfully escorted back to his car at the trailhead. Carr says Fiedler avoided injury by remaining in place when he discovered he was lost.
