48-year-old man suffered severe burns Sunday after falling into thermal water near the cone of Old Faithful Geyser. According to a Yellowstone Park release, Cade Edmond Siemers, an American currently residing in India, told rangers he had gone for a walk off the boardwalk without a flashlight shortly before midnight, and tripped and fell into a hot spring. He got himself back to his hotel room and called for assistance. Rangers and paramedics responded to the Old Faithful Inn at midnight and prepared to have him transported to a hospital. Siemers was taken by ambulance to West Yellowstone Airport to be flown by fixed-wing plane to Idaho Falls since bad weather conditions prohibited the use of a life flight helicopter to fly him directly from Old Faithful. He was admitted to the Burn Center at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Rangers detected evidence of alcohol use. Investigation on Monday indicated the man had walked up to the geyser and investigations continue, including assessment of any damage to the geyser cone. The results of the investigation will be forwarded to the United States Attorney’s Office for prosecutorial review.
