A fire burning on the Big Piney Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The Sandy fire was reported on Tuesday afternoon and ha grown to 99-acres. A Type 3 incident management team has arrived and will be managing the fire suppression operations.
The blaze is located six miles west of Bondurant. Smoke may be visible from US-189/191. An area closure is in effect today for the Cliff Creek and Sandy Marshall Creek, with portions of Cliff Creek, Highline, Bondurant Creek, Cliff Creek Parallel, Snag Creek, and Hunter Creek trails, and Cliff Creek FS Road 30565 affected.
The fire danger rating is at Moderate for the area.
Currently a 20-person Type 2 hand crew, a Type 1 Hotshot crew, a Type 1 helicopter and 2 engines are working the fire and additional resources have been ordered.
