With discussion of so-called “breakthrough” cases of COVID being heard nationally and as of yesterday, locally as well, some who have been vaccinated are wondering when they should be thinking about getting a booster shot. In truth, officials say well over 90% of those being hospitalized for COVID have not been vaccinated. Among the “breakthrough” cases, a large number are seniors or those who are otherwise immunocompromised.
At this time there is no federal approval for a third dose of any of the COVID vaccines, although that may come eventually.
At this time, the Food and Drug Administration has only approved a third dose for those who are undergoing cancer treatment, blood problem treatment, or anything that’s going to affect the immune system.
