About 250 people were on hand at Monday’s school board meeting in Driggs, Idaho to comment on the issue surrounding the Teton High School mascot. School Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme says the opinions were relatively evenly split regarding whether or not the “Redskins” was derogatory and politically incorrect and whether the mascot should be changed.
Altogether, the comment period took up about 4 ½ hours with the school board taking an additional 1 ½ to 2 hours to discuss the issue among themselves. Woolstenhulme says the board has decided to conduct a work session next Tuesday to discuss the input and will seek ways to continue to involve the community in the process.
Tuesday’s meeting will take place in the Driggs Elementary School beginning at 6:00 pm
