Former Wyoming US Senator Mike Enzi’s passed away late yesterday following a serious bicycle accident Friday near his home. Enzi’s injuries included a broken neck and ribs, according to his family.
Enzi had been flown to the University of Colorado Hospital in Loveland Saturday night where he remained unconscious. No information has been available regarding the accident itself.
The 77-year-old former senator was known as one of the more conservative lawmakers during his time on Capitol Hill, where he served for four terms before retiring late last year.
The senator served as chair of the Senate Budget Committee and Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
The family says it has begun planning a “celebration of a life well-lived” to honor the senator.
