Missing person thought dead in Yellowstone hot pool

September 28, 2022 by Jackson Hole Radio

70-year-old IL Hun Ro was reported missing in late August. He was last seen in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming on July 31, 2022. He is an Asian male, approximately 5’3″, 135 pounds with black eyes and black hair.
The Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation now says they believe he died after falling into a thermal pool in Yellowstone National Park.
On August 16th, a Yellowstone Park employee reportedly found human remains floating in one of the areas thermal features.
The park employee apparently spotted a shoe floating in Abyss Pool in the West Thumb Geyser Basin where water temperatures can reach over 140 degrees. The shoe was reported to still contain the partial remains of a foot.
The Park Service told reporters that they think the foot and shoe are related to an incident involving one individual that likely occurred at the end of July, but final identification of the remains has not been made. When it is, park officials will notify next of kin and then release information to the public.
IL is not the only unsolved missing person in Yellowstone. Kim H Crumbo, age 74, was last seen in the park on September 12, 2021. Crumbo and his brother Mark O’Neill, from Chimacum, Washington, were reported overdue by a family member Sunday, September 19th from their four-night backcountry trip to Shoshone Lake. Park search crews found O’Neill’s body on the east shore of Shoshone Lake on Monday, September 20th.
