
Travel to Yellowstone National Park has definitely picked up this summer as the Yellowstone visitor numbers eclipse 2019. The park reports it hosted 955,645 recreation visits last month. That’s a 2% increase from July 2019 when 936,062 people visited the park for recreation.
So far in 2020, Yellowstone has hosted 1,664,830 recreation visits; down 27.5% from the same period last year. By this time in 2019, 2,294,690 people had recreated in Yellowstone. Of course, the park was closed due to health and safety reasons related to COVID-19 beginning March 24th. Two Wyoming entrances opened on May 18 and three Montana entrances opened on June first. All five entrances reopened June 1st.
According to their report, the park’s June 2020 numbers showed a 32% decrease from June 2019. However, even though the numbers were down, visitation substantially increased through June so that in the last ten days of of the month , traffic counts ranged from 90%-116% of 2019 numbers. There were no commercial bus visits during June 2020, while in June 2019, bus passengers made up 70,461 park visits.
