The Jackson Hole Moose showed a little rust getting back into the swing of things Friday night against the Denver Leafs. After spotting Denver the first two goals the Moose got their legs under them and cruised to a 10-2 victory.
Once AJ Sanders got the Moose even at 2 to end the opening period, Alex Dewitz took charge of the 2nd period with a pair of tallies and Jackson was off and running.
Drew Akins (2G, 3A) had a 5-point night, followed by Dewitz (2G, 1A), AJ Sanders (2G, 1A), as well as Brad Improta’s 3 assists. Jackson goalie Tim Cooney slammed the door after letting in the two early ones.
Different story Saturday. Jackson jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period but were caught by surprise when Denver began the 2nd frame with jump. Five Leaf goals and the Moose were staring at a 6-4 deficit to start the 3rd.
The Moose could not close the gap, ending up with the 8-4 loss hung on goaltender Joe Noonan. Drew Akins potted a pair for Jackson. Dewitz tallied again and Mike Longo made it a 2-goal weekend with another in Saturday’s loss.
