The Monkeypox virus continues to be found in Wyoming.
The Wyoming Department of Health says additional cases of the virus have been identified in state residents within the last couple of days.
The new cases have been confirmed in men in Natrona and Campbell counties. These cases are not thought to pose additional risk to local communities and are not considered to be a significant increase.
Monkeypox starts with a rash with other symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, muscle aches and tiredness. Monkeypox is almost never fatal but is extremely uncomfortable and painful and can cause serious illness in some people.
The disease spreads through close, intimate contact and health officials say you can reduce your risk
Talking with intimate partners about monkeypox symptoms and being aware of any new or unexplained rash or lesions. Anyone who has or recently had monkeypox symptoms or has a new or unexplained rash should not have sex and should see a healthcare provider.
Also, consider limiting the number of one-time or anonymous sex partners to reduce likelihood of exposure.
Remember that condoms may provide some protection against monkeypox but may not prevent all exposures because the rash can occur in other areas of the body.
The Wyoming Department of Health recommends vaccination for people who have been exposed to monkeypox and for people who may be more likely to get the virus.
Eligible individuals interested in vaccination appointments should contact their public health office at (307) 733-6401
