The mushers participating in this year’s 27th Annual International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race have arrived in Jackson now, and will gather tomorrow morning at the Deloney Parking Lot just east of downtown Jackson for the required veterinary check-up of the dogs.
Interested members of the public may elect to meet and visit with the racers between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. Then at 5:30 pm Friday, the kick-off of this year’s race takes place on the Jackson Town Square, with the first team leaving the chute at 6:30 pm. The short leg of the race is primarily ceremonial, with the first stage leaving Blackrock Ranger Station at 9:00 am Saturday. The 25 racers are competing for a combined purse of $165,000. Being the largest purse in the lower 48 states, it draws top teams from throughout the United States and Canada.
