The Teton County District 401 School Board work session and action item meeting, has been set for 6:00 pm next Tuesday at the Driggs Elementary Gymnasium to work with the public in developing and planning the process to retire the Teton High School Redskins mascot name. The board made the decision at their July 16 special board meeting, to retire the name, and to do so in a slow and respectful manner involving the stakeholders. They also stipulated that no school district funds would be used to make that change. School Superintendent Monte Woolstenhulme told Jackson Hole Radio News that considerations for a new mascot may or may not include continued identity with a Native American theme. Members of the public are being encouraged to attend Tuesday’s meeting and share their feedback with the school board and staff.
