Last week, Wyoming Department of Workforce Services released new employment numbers for the state. According to the report, the Wyoming unemployment rate decreased from 3.8% in February to 3.7% in March. The employment rate seasonally adjusts to account for tourism jobs. However, Wyoming’s current unemployment rate is still higher than it was in March of 2022. It’s also slightly higher than the current US unemployment rate of 3.5%.
Return to work
During the same period, from February to March, seasonally adjusted employment of Wyoming residents rose by 1467 individuals as people returned to work. Additionally, the state’s labor force, which comprises employed and unemployed individuals, rose by 7027 people or 2.4% from March 2022 to March 2023.
But unemployment rises in much of Wyoming
From March 2022 to March 2023, Wyoming unemployment rates rose in 20 counties and fell in three counties. The largest increases occurred in Washakie and Carbon counties. In contrast, unemployment rates fell in Weston, Campbell, and Converse counties. As of March, Teton County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.6%, followed by Weston County at 2.7% and Converse County at 3.2%. The highest unemployment rates are in Washakie, Sweetwater, and Fremont counties.
Non-farm employment in Wyoming has also risen by 6700 jobs.
