The National Park Service has taken on a fact checking role when it comes to a popular myth about food waste.
They say don’t discard apple cores or banana peel thinking that they will disappear on its own.
Glacier National Park officials busted the myth on their Facebook post last week when they said that many items will not decompose quickly or if they are consumed by wildlife, they will contribute to habituation.
They say that many of the discarded food items are not digested easily by wildlife and could even spur non-native plant growth.
The park service says, if you pack it in, pack it out.
