No New COVID-19 Cases in YNP Staff

Despite a strong traffic flow into Yellowstone National Park through the South and East Entrance over the last two weeks, and now through Montana entrances this week, there have been no new cases of COVID-19 among the staff. In partnership with the State of Montana and Park County, Montana, health officers, Yellowstone National Park had tested 43 employees for COVID-19 on May 28 and 29. All test results came back negative. These employees are in front-line positions and have been interacting with the public over the past two weeks, since the park opened the Wyoming entrances on May 18. This surveillance testing will continue throughout the summer and target National Park Service and concessions employees who are first responders and/or work directly with the public. Vehicle traffic entering the North, West, and Northeast Entrances on June 1-3 was 45% of the same days in 2019. The park recorded 7,186 vehicles through the Montana entrances on those three days versus 15,934 vehicles on the same three days last year. Traffic through the South and East Entrances is about 70% of last year’s levels.
