Barring cloudy skies, it’s looking like this part of the continental United States will get a rare chance to see the aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, during upcoming nights. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has issued a ‘geomagnetic storm watch’ that a non-threatening solar flare is expected to collide with earth’s magnetic field, creating a blast of color from now through Friday, although last night was predicted to be its peak. The agency predicted it will likely be seen in northern Wyoming and Idaho, and both North and South Dakota, offering residents of those states opportunities to see this natural light show.
