A Jackson police officer who ran into the burning Rusty Parrot Lodge last November and evacuated the patrons was honored Tuesday night with the Jackson Police Department’s Medal of Bravery. In making the presentation, Mayor Pete Muldoon explained that Officer Justin Lancaster had arrived before the other emergency responders when the fire was reported just before midnight. Lancaster obtained a guest list and proceeded to go through the burning building door to door to assure the guests were evacuated. When he reached the third floor, Lancaster found the fire was making its way into the building and had filled the corridor with smoke. Lancaster made his way through the thick smoke to the last room which was immediately adjacent the fire, and awoke the occupant who was still asleep. The Medal of Bravery is the Jackson’s highest honor for valor of the town’s officers.
