
Multiple climbers involved in two separate accidents on Granite Peak north of Yellowstone were the subjects of high angle rescues Sunday. One of the climbers died of his injuries. The Park County, Montana Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue coordinated with Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue high angle rescue team to affect the rescue. The high angle team completed seven short haul rescues, transporting patients to waiting medical helicopters. Two patients were flown to St. Vincent’s Hospital and Livingston Health Care. The deceased subject was recovered and transported to Livingston. Participating agencies in the efforts the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office SAR high angle rescue, Ridgeview Aviation, Yellowstone National Park, and Guardian Flight. One of the helicopter pilots, Mark Duffy with Central Copters, recently lost his son Tom in a helicopter accident while fighting wildfires. Mark responded to rescue those in need, completing an incredible number of rescues before returning for his son’s funeral.
