At a seven-hour meeting Friday, the Jackson Hole Airport board approved a permit for Wind River Air to operate helicopter tours out of the airport. This after some in the community had worried that an electronic meeting would stifle public input.
The board conducted their meeting remotely while members of the public were permitted to submit questions and comments prior to the meeting by email and during the meeting via the WebEx platform. Altogether, 366 comments were received prior to the meeting including many who opposed the plan.
Wind River Air operator Tony Chambers will now begin discussions with the National Park Service, US Forest Service, the National Elk Refuge, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and the FAA to determine a voluntary air tour management plan designed to identify and mitigate impacts of the tours over the area. The airport permit is for one year only.
