A popular hiking area in Grand Teton National Park has been closed starting on the south shore of Taggart Lake; southeast along lake and creek shore, to the north side of the Valley Trail Junction.
Park officials explain that this closure is necessary for human safety and the protection of natural processes while the carcass of a yearling female moose is being consumed by large carnivores and other scavengers.
Access to Bradley Lake and the Valley Trail is still possible from the trailhead. Another area between the Chapel of the Sacred Heart and the Signal Mountain Lodge Area has also be closed to public access while a grizzly bear is consuming the carcass of an elk there as well.
The park advises that these closures remain in effect until signs on the ground and online notices are removed.
