Grand Teton National Park hosted an estimated 87,739 recreational visits in April 2021, a 48% increase compared with April 2019; and the largest number of recreational visits for April since the park has been keeping records. By contrast, Yellowstone saw 67,508 recreational visits during April. That was also a record for April in the park.
Yellowstone had already ended its winter season and had not yet opened the roads throughout the park for public use in April. Both parks were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020. Park officials in both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are expecting very heavy visitation this summer and see these record numbers in April as a preview of things to come.
Visitors to the park are highly encouraged to plan and recreate responsibly to make the most of their visit and to help ensure this iconic landscape may be enjoyed by future generations. This year, reservations are required for most accommodations throughout the parks including camping facilities which already are heavily booked.
