Recreation visits to Grand Teton National Park for the month of May 2020 are 56% fewer compared with May 2019 and 54% fewer compared with the 5-year average from 2015-2019 for the month of May. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and working with national, state and local health guidance, Grand Teton was closed to the public on March 24th and reopened with limited access on May 18th. As such, the park was open for 14 days during May; although U.S Highway 89 and the multi-use pathway along the highway remained accessible through the month. These visits are calculated in the visitation statistics. Specifically, recreational visits to Grand Teton last month numbered 123,752 compared with 278,529 in May of last year. As yet, Yellowstone has not posted its visitation numbers for May.
