Parks Roads Closing For Season

Several of the roads in Grand Teton National Park officially closed for the season today, including the Moose-Wilson Road between the Death Canyon and Granite Canyon Trailheads, Signal Mountain Summit Road, and Teton Park Road between the Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain. The Teton Park Road will remain open to non-motorized use, such as biking, walking, skiing, snowshoeing. As of today, the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center has also closed for the season. Meanwhile, most of the roads in Yellowstone National Park not already closed by the past week’s snows close for the season to wheeled vehicles on Monday. Those roads will reopen to over snow travel December 15th. The one exception is the road from the park’s North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, through Mammoth Hot Springs to the park’s Northeast Entrance and the communities of Cooke City and Silver Gate, Montana. This road is open all year, weather-permitting. Travel east of Cooke City is not possible from late fall to spring because a segment of US 212 (Beartooth Highway) between Cooke City and Pilot Creek is closed to vehicle travel. Yellowstone’s facilities and activities for the winter season also become available December 15th.
