Parks Set to Resume Operations After Shutdown

With the enactment of the continuing resolution, staff at Grand Teton National Park are in the process of resuming normal operations. In a statement issued Saturday, Grand Teton National Park officials stated that the safety and well-being of park employees and visitors is their top priority. Based on the lengthy duration of the closure, park officials estimate it will take some time to fully assess facility conditions, address potential safety issues, remove accumulated snow, and get systems back up and running. Yellowstone National Park has also announced its schedule for resumption of operations there. Visitor centers that are normally open this time of year reopened to the public Sunday and the entrance stations resumed collecting fees. Today, other staff members return to duty to process a backlog of applications for special use permits, film permits and other requests. Maintenance workers will focus on clearings snow from around buildings and assuring access is safe for the staff and the public. In its official statement, the park staff expressed a special thank you to the concessioners and gateway communities who provided support to not only keep the park accessible for over-snow travel, but in support of the furloughed employees as well.
