Another peaceful protest honoring George Floyd is scheduled in Jackson on Sunday. Protests have been happening around Wyoming since the death of Floyd in Minneapolis two weeks ago. One of three in Jackson occurred on the town square Monday with about 700 participants decrying a lack of accountability within many police forces and justice systems.
The demonstrators began their event by kneeling for eight minutes, 46 seconds – the amount of time the former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd’s neck as the man pleaded for his life. To the south, a group of more than 100 demonstrators gathered in downtown Pinedale Thursday holding signs that read “The Equality State needs more equality,” and “White silence is violence.” The peaceful protest was one of the largest to ever happen in Pinedale. A sizable showing from Jackson participated in that demonstration as well. Similar demonstrations have taken place in Alpine and Victor, Idaho.
