Protect Our Water Jackson Hole has announced the appointment of Phil Powers as its new Executive Director. After a comprehensive search, the POWJH Board of Directors selected Powers, a long-time Jackson business owner and conservationist, to lead the organization.
Powers brings extensive experience to the role, having served as CEO of the American Alpine Club (AAC), where he built a strong public policy function and advocated for recreational climbing with various governmental bodies. His work with over twenty land management agencies, including Grand Teton National Park, further underscores his commitment to conservation. In addition to his role at the AAC, Powers operates Jackson Hole Mountain Guides and its branches across six states. His leadership background also includes roles at the National Outdoor Leadership School, where he helped establish their first endowment fund.
Phil Powers is also involved in global leadership efforts, serving on the board of Ascend, an organization focused on leadership development for girls in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and as a board member for the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation.
In his new role at POWJH, Powers will focus on advocating for the full implementation of the twenty-year Teton County Water Quality Management Plan. “Securing the quality of the water we drink and enjoy for recreation is crucial for our ecosystem, tourism industry, and community diversity,” said Powers. “I am honored to serve this community and look forward to working together to improve water quality for everyone.”
The Board of Directors also expressed their gratitude to Dan Heilig, who served as Interim Executive Director during the transition, praising his dedication and efforts in keeping the organization on track.
