Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced more than 1,900 local governments around the country will receive $529.3-million in Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding for 2021. Since local governments cannot tax federal lands, annual PILT payments help to defray costs associated with maintaining important community services.
With 2,624,654 acres of federal land in Teton County including a portion of Yellowstone, all of Grand Teton National Park, the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway and Bridger-Teton National Forest, the county will receive $2,036.715 in PILT funds.
Park County, which shares a portion of Yellowstone National Park in addition to Shoshone National Forest has 3,591,547 acres of federal land and will receive $2,127,729. With all 23 counties added together, Wyoming will receive $31,227,593 in PILT payments this year.
