Police Chief Todd Smith Retires

Jackson Police Chief Todd Smith has decided to retire, and last night submitted his resignation to the city manager. In his letter, Smith reflected on the past 12 years as leader of the police force here as well as a total of 29 years with the department. He termed that opportunity an honor. Smith wrote, “Much of the honor, in my mind, does not stem from carrying out the day-to-day duties of the Chief of Police, but instead, it comes from the chance to work along-side some truly incredible men and women who are always willing to be there for this community when they need them most. It requires a special person to be a police officer these days, so I hold each one of these selfless individuals in the highest of regards for their commitment to this community and to our nation.”  Smith says when he leaves the department, he will pursue a quiet retirement at his home in Hoback Ranches. Smith’s retirement will become effective at the end of the day, August 23rd.
