Wyoming police are ramping up patrols for this month’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over DUI Campaign leading up to Labor Day weekend. Research shows Wyoming saw an increase of 12.82% in drunk driving fatalities from 2000 to 2017 for the 5th-largest rate of increase in the country. In fact, Wyoming is only 1 of 6 states to see a rise in drunk driving fatalities along with Oregon, California, Maryland, North Dakota, and Maine. This, at a time drunk driving fatalities nationwide decreased 18% overall from 2000 to 2017. Still, in 2000, Wyoming enjoyed the 4th-least number of drunk driving fatalities with 39 incidents; and in 2017 Wyoming had the 8th-least, with 44 fatalities.
