The first post-COVID-restricted holiday weekend starts for many today. Americans are showing a strong desire to travel this Memorial Day as more people get the COVID-19 vaccine and consumer confidence grows. Wyoming AAA Auto Club expects more than 37-million people to travel 50 miles or more from home for the Memorial Day holiday.
That’s an increase of 60% from 2020 when only 23 million traveled, which was the lowest on record since AAA began tracking travel data in 2000. AAA Wyoming Spokesperson Aldo Vazquez says, “If you choose to travel this Memorial Day, know what to expect at your destination and take measures to protect yourself and others as the pandemic continues.”
The busiest times on the road will be in the afternoons today and tomorrow. Major metro areas could experience double the travel times compared to a routine trip. With the increased traffic volumes this year, motorists are urged to exercise extra patience with other drivers on the road.
