Noting that it can take five to seven days for lab test results to come back, Teton County Health Officer Jodie Pond said at a Friday meeting that they have maxed out their testing capacity and are under water with contact tracing and investigation.
St John’s Health CEO Dr. Paul Beaupre said that they are able to do about 70 rapid tests per day and another 40 tests that are sent out to labs. That capacity will only increase when the county receives more testing material from the federal and state governments. “Yelling at my staff or sending me threatening message will not change the answer,” Beaupre said.
He said they desperately wanted to test more people and asked residents to contact federal and state officials and advocate for more testing supplies to be sent to Teton County.
Pond said that a new testing regime will begin in about two weeks when they begin surveillance testing for employees of certain business types. She said that they will have about 1000 test kits per week.
Pond said the county has already hired fourteen contract tracers and will add another four in the coming days to deal with the surge in cases.
