
With numerous wildland fires burning in the region, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning In Teton County.
Red Flag Warning is a term used by fire-weather forecasters to call attention to limited weather conditions of particular importance that may result in extreme burning conditions. It is issued when it is an on-going event or the fire weather forecaster has a high degree of confidence that Red Flag criteria will occur within 24 hours of issuance.
A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 9 PM MDT MONDAY... The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from noon to 9 PM MDT Monday. * IMPACTS: Low Humidities...Hot Temperatures...a Haines Index of 6 and Gusty Winds could result in fires spreading quickly and having erratic fire behavior. * AFFECTED AREA: In Northwest WY...Fire Weather Zone 415, which includes Teton County. * WHEN: Monday afternoon and evening. * WIND: South to Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. * HUMIDITY: 13 to 17 percent. * TEMPERATURES: In the lower 70s in the mountains. In the middle 80s in the valleys. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Please make sure your campfire is completely out before leaving the campground. Avoid driving or parking in high, dead grass as a spark can ignite dry vegetation. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly. A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
