Everything is in place for a healthy visit tonight from Santa and his reindeer. Jackson Hole Radio Veterinary Correspondent Dr. Stephanie Ninnemann assured us this week that the deer had been checked out and given a clean bill of health by American Veterinary Medical Association President Dr. José Arce for their trip, and she says veterinarians around the world are at the ready should there be a need for first aid along the arduous trip.
“Those veterinarians are members of a group known as Santa’s “Emergency Landing and Veterinary Expert System,” or E.L.V.E.S. And so those vets are kind of the ones who are on call in case something happens in the middle of the night. They might also be able to provide a little bit of an extra place for the reindeer to catch their breath, or maybe get some fluids, or maybe just a little bit of a ‘pick-me-up’ if they need something in the middle of that trip.”
