Teton County Search and Rescue reported the three snowmobilers that were trapped near Angle Mountain have been successfully rescued and returned to Togwotee Lodge this afternoon.
The men that were rescued had no significant injuries after spending last night in the backcountry. Teton County Search and Rescue received a request for assistance from the Forest Service at 1:00pm yesterday, after two additional members of the group returned to Togwotee Mountain Lodge and reported that the other three members of their group might have been stranded. Search and Rescue dispatched a team as soon as daylight became available this morning. Due to road closures today, the team entered the backcountry on snowmobiles at Kelly Warm Springs and proceeded through the Gros Ventre to gain access to the rescue area. Air rescue was not an option due to conditions.
The three men that were rescued are reported to be Denver, CO, residents, ages 33, 33, and 39. They were located by Search and Rescue within designated Wilderness Area, where motorized equipment is prohibited.
Teton County Search and Rescue was assisted by multiple partners in this effort, and would like to thank the National Forest Service, Fremont County Search and Rescue, the National Park Service, the Teton County Sheriff’s Office, and Togwotee Mountain Lodge guides for their critical help and support.
“There were multiple agencies working together today to make this rescue a success, and we are truly grateful for that collaboration,” said Teton County Sheriff Matt Carr. “We also want to remind all backcountry users that Search and Rescue resources are limited, so in these weather conditions, it is critical to exercise extreme caution and proper judgment. We were fortunate that this was the only incident that required attention today.”
