Ricketts Yellowstone Ecosystem has submitted plans to the Teton County Planning and Building Department for “The Hawken,” a new resort in the scenic Granite Creek area, once the site of the Safari Club.
“According to the developer, The “Hawken” name is derived to the iconic Hawken rifle, “symbolizing the rugged determination and environmental appreciation of the mountain men.” They say the resort’s design will reflect this historical legacy, and a connection between guests and the natural environment of the Yellowstone Ecosystem.
The proposed development, if approved, will span 33.6 acres, featuring a 22,000-square-foot main structure. The resort’s amenities include:
- Main Lodge: A welcoming space with eight guest rooms, a fine dining restaurant emphasizing local cuisine, a bar, and communal areas for relaxation.
- Private Cabins: Ten cabins organized into three clusters – Meadow, Creek, and Forest, each with a central communal space, offering a private, nature-immersed stay.
- Naturalist Center: A focal point for conservation education, providing seasonal programs, workshops, and nature tours to educate visitors about local biodiversity and sustainability. Activities will range from summer adventures to winter experiences, including special events like vintner weekends and fly tying workshops.
- Workforce Housing: Seven existing cabins from the Safari Club will be renovated to provide housing for year-round staff, ensuring sustainable operations.
The resort plans to break ground in summer 2025, with an anticipated completion in summer 2028.
