Roosevelt Fire Restrictions Lifted On Friday

October 4, 2018 by Jackson Hole Radio

Togwotee Fire

Effective noon on Friday, October 5th, the closure area around the Roosevelt Fire on the Big Piney and Pinedale Ranger Districts will be rescinded by Forest Supervisor Tricia O’Connor.
Due to widespread precipitation received across the fire area, anticipated cooler temperatures, and shorter days ahead, the Forest has decided to lift the area closure.
It is the Forest user’s responsibility to know the hazards involved with traversing a recently burned area. Visitors should plan more than one travel route if needed to escape approaching fire, or avoid hot or smoldering areas within the fire area. For some time after a wildfire, recreationists may encounter unpredictable spreading of flames, rolling rocks and logs, falling branches and trees, and flash flooding. Additionally, anyone entering the area may experience heavy smoke and limited visibility.
Visitors are also cautioned that when entering or using trails within the fire area they are doing so at their own risk. Fire weakened trees, known as snags, may fall at any time and trails may not be passable due to downed trees and branches.
For more information on conditions across the Bridger-Teton National Forest visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/btnf/. For additional information, contact the Bridger-Teton National Forest at (307) 739-5500.
