Three cases have been confirmed and one is pending involving illness among Wyoming residents connected with a national Salmonella Newport outbreak. A national recall of 6.9 million pounds of ground beef due to possible contamination is currently underway. The beef is from JBS Tolleson, Inc. in Arizona, and the lot labeled as 085-2018 Raw, Non-Intact Beef Products were distributed to Sams Club stores in Wyoming and Idaho. Consumption of food contaminated with Salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. The most common symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating the contaminated product.
