With school in session again in Teton Valley and Sublette County, and set to begin next week in Jackson Hole, drivers are reminded to be conscious of school bus stops along their travel routes. Wyoming Highway Patrol Lieutenant Matt Brackin emphasizes that when the bus’s red lights are flashing and the stop arm extended, traffic in both directions are required to stop.
Besides endangering the lives of children, passing a stopped school bus can lead to the driver being fined $435.
Brackin says in Jackson Hole, most of the school bus violations take place along the five-lane Highway 89 south of Jackson. He reminds that the law requires that all traffic in both lanes traveling in each direction come to a complete stop when a school bus is stopped and the red lights are flashing.
